Mufidah Khairunnisa, PERBANDINGAN EFEKTIVITAS PEMBERIAN JUS ALPUKAT, TOMAT, DAN NANAS TERHADAP PENURUNAN KADAR KOLESTEROL PADA MENCIT HIPERKOLESTEROLEMIA. Banda Aceh Fakultas Kedokteran,

Abstract

Hypercholesterolemia is a significant global health concern, including in Indonesia, where its high prevalence contributes to cardiovascular diseases. Functional foods derived from fruits, such as avocado, tomato, and pineapple, are known for their cholesterol-lowering properties due to their active compounds. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of avocado, tomato, and pineapple juices in reducing cholesterol levels in male Balb/C mice with hypercholesterolemia. Using a pretest-posttest experimental design, 20 male Balb/C mice were divided into five groups: normal control, positive control, and three intervention groups treated with avocado, tomato, and pineapple juice. After seven days of intervention, pineapple juice showed the highest cholesterol-lowering effect (mean reduction = 42.50 mg/dL), followed by tomato juice (mean reduction = 41.75 mg/dL) and avocado juice (mean reduction = 36.50 mg/dL). Statistical analysis using one-way ANOVA and Games-Howell post hoc tests confirmed that pineapple juice was the most effective intervention for reducing cholesterol levels in hypercholesterolemic mice. Keywords: cholesterol reduction, avocado juice, tomato juice, pineapple juice, mice.
