Pendidikan abad 21 menekankan pelajar terhadap kecakapan 4C (critical thinking, communication, creatification, collaboration) yang merupakan modal utama menghadapi revolusi 4.0. Salah satu upaya mengembangkan kemampuan berpikir kritisis siswa dapat melalui pembelajaran di kelas dan model yang mendukung proses ini adalah model problem based learning (PBL) tentunya penerapan model ini membutuhkan pembelajaran yang mendukung prosesnya yaitu pembelajaran ilmu pengetahuan sosial (IPS). Adapun tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengetahui penerapan model problem Based Learning terhadap kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa kelas VI SD 51 Banda Aceh dan apa saja kendala guru menerapkan model PBL. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan teknik pengumpulan data observasi partisipatif dan wawancara tidak berstruktur. teknik analisis datanya melalui data collection, data reduction, data display, dan verification. Hasil yang diproleh 4 dari 5 kelompok berada ditingkat sangat tinggi pada kriteria kemampuan berfikir kritis, sisanya 1 kelompok berada ditingkat tinggi pada kriteria kemampuan berfikir kritis siswa, selain itu penerapa model problem based learning (PBL) terhadap kemampuan berfikir kritis siswa pada pembelajaran IPS berjalan secara lancar dan optimal juga tujuan pembelajaran tercapai. Oleh karena itu dengan menerapkan model problem based learning (PBL) di kelas VI dapat meningkatkan kemampuan berfikir kritis siswa khususnya pada pembelajaran IPS.

21st century education emphasizes students' 4C skills (critical thinking, communication, creation, collaboration) which are the main capital in facing the 4.0 revolution. One of the efforts to develop students' critical thinking skills can be through classroom learning and the model that supports this process is the problem based learning (PBL) model, of course the application of this model requires learning that supports the process, namely social science learning (IPS). The purpose of this study was to find out the application of the problem-based learning model to the critical thinking skills of grade VI SD 51 Banda Aceh students and what were the teacher's obstacles in applying the PBL model. This study used a qualitative approach with participatory observation data collection techniques and unstructured interviews. data analysis techniques through data collection, data reduction, data display, and verification. The results obtained by 4 out of 5 groups were at a very high level on the criteria for critical thinking skills, the remaining 1 group was at a high level on the criteria for students' critical thinking abilities, besides that the application of the problem based learning (PBL) model to students' critical thinking skills in social studies learning was running smoothly. smoothly and optimally also the learning objectives are achieved. Therefore by applying the problem based learning (PBL) model in class VI it can improve students' critical thinking skills, especially in social studies learning.
