Mangrove merupakan komunitas tumbuhan yang toleransi di daerah pasang surut, terutama di pantai yang terlindung dan muara sungai pada saat pasang dan bebas dari genangan serta komunitas tumbuhannya dapat bertoleransi terhadap garam. Keanekaragaman adalah jumlah total spesies dalam suatu daerah tertentu atau jumlah spesies yang terdapat dalam suatu area antar jumlah total individu dari spesies yang ada dalam satu komunitas. Berbagai aktivitas manusia seperti konversi hutan mangrove menjadi lahan budidaya perikanan, sawah,industri, serta pusat rekreasi sampai daerah pemukiman yang semakin hari semakin meningkat telah menimbulkan berbagai masalah bagi kerusakan ekosistem mangrove. Kurangnya pemahaman tentang pengelolaan hutan mangrove membuat ekosistem mangrove kehilangan perannya sebagai penyangga ekosistem. Melihat gejala perusakan hutan mangrove untuk berbagai kepentingan tersebut maka perlu dilakukan pengelolaan hutan mangrove secara lestari serta pendidikan konservasi bagi wilayah sekitar. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui keanekaragaman spesies mangrove di Pesisir Pantai Suak Timah kecamatan Samatiga Kabupaten Aceh Barat. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dengan pengambilan sampel secara purposive sampling, yaitu dengan cara menentukan plot yang memiliki ukuran 10x10 m untuk kategori pohon yang tersebar di tiga stasiun yang memiliki perbedaan faktor fisik. Hasil dari penelitian ini ditemukan 5 spesies dari 4 familia berbeda, tingkat keanekaragaman spesies rendah dengan nilai (Ĥ) 1,54 dan NP spesies mangrove tertinggi ialah Nypa fruticans dan NP spesies terendah ialah Rhizopora mucronata. Sebaran spesies tertinggi di wilayah penelitian diduduki oleh spesies Nypa fruticans dengan kategori luas sedangkan sebaran mangrove terendah diduduki oleh spesies Rhizopora apiculata dengan kategori sempit.

Mangroves are plant communities that tolerate tidal areas, especially on sheltered beaches and river estuaries at high tide and are free from puddles, and the plant community can tolerate salt. Diversity is the total number of species in a certain area or the number of species found in an area between the total number of individuals of a species that exist in one community. Various human activities, such as the conversion of mangrove forests into fish cultivation land, rice fields, industry, as well as recreation centers and residential areas, which are increasing day by day, have caused various problems for the destruction of the mangrove ecosystem. Lack of understanding about mangrove forest management makes the mangrove ecosystem lose its role as an ecosystem buffer. Seeing the symptoms of mangrove forest destruction for various purposes, it is necessary to carry out sustainable management of mangrove forests as well as conservation education for the surrounding area. This research aims to determine the diversity of mangrove species on the Suak Timah Coast, Samatiga subdistrict, West Aceh Regency. This research uses a quantitative approach with purposive sampling, namely by determining plots measuring 10x10 m for tree categories spread across three stations that have different physical factors. The results of this research found 5 species from 4 different families; the level of species diversity was low with a value (Ĥ) of 1.54, and the highest NP species of mangrove was Nypa fruticans, and the lowest NP species was Rhizopora mucronata. The highest species distribution in the study area is occupied by the broad category Nypa fruticans species, while the lowest mangrove distribution is occupied by the narrow category Rhizopora apiculata species.
